Message from the Pastor:
Hello Church Family, Visitors and Friends,
I wanted to send you all this message to update you on our plans for resuming in-person worship. Our leadership team (Roundtable) met on May 14th, and then again last night to develop this plan. The group has taken many different factors into account and has come up with what is felt to be the best decision for Rapid Valley United Methodist. Many churches began resuming in-person worship a few weeks ago and some others have not yet resumed, so the majority of our leadership agreed to go ahead with our plan of resuming in-person worship this Sunday, June 7th. Since we have a very large sanctuary and we are anticipating our numbers will likely be smaller, it has been decided to conduct only one service at 9:30am for the near future, and then adapt if need be. This worship time is an exact compromise in between our former 8:30am and 10:30am times. Our leadership understands that we have a very broad range of members and constituents, so the time frame in which people are comfortable returning to in-person worship will be varied for many different reasons. Therefore, if you are comfortable returning to worship this Sunday, we encourage you to come. If you are not comfortable, we encourage you to wait until such time as you are. We will continue to post the sermon on facebook and youtube, so folks may continue to engage in that way.
I'd also like to inform you of the precautionary steps we will be taking to make our gathering as safe as possible. After much discussion among the leadership team it was decided to encourage the wearing of face masks, but not to require it. There may be legitimate reasons why people will choose either option, but what the leadership team wanted me to emphasize is that those individual decisions should not take the form of a political statement, nor should anyone comment on the use or non-use of a face mask by another person. We will offer disposable face masks on a table as people are entering the building, as well as making hand sanitizer available. In addition, we will be asking individuals (or family units) to leave at least 4 chairs in between other individuals/family units. We will also spread out the rows so they are at least 6 feet apart. On each chair, we will place a post-it note so we know which chairs have been used so we can sanitize them after worship. We will be using a product called TBcide Quat (which is designed to kill the Covid-19 virus) on the chairs and doors, etc. For the time being, we will not be producing bulletins nor passing an offering plate in an effort to limit contact by not touching the same surfaces.
So that is our plan for the time being. We will remain flexible to adapt and shift this plan in whatever ways may seem prudent to our leadership team in the future. In the meantime, I want to thank you all for your faithfulness in continuing to share your financial gifts, as well as your prayers for our church in this unprecedented time.
Blessings to you all until we meet again :-)
